An Angel at my Table | 2017
The immobility of the landscape as a fundamental objective. We start from the
idea of a day in the acute ward of a psychiatric hospital. This hospital creates
an atmosphere surrounded by a monotony breath and is also a space where
different characters coexist: patients and health personnel. It develops with an
open environment to madness, which gradually becomes blurred and distorted
into an ambiguous and evocative atmosphere with the different landscapes
interlaced, adopting different referents, either historical or conceptual.
A clinical environment, which has been delimited and then defined by certain
difficult limits to discern between normality and abnormality. From here, the
"mental health" has transformed into a psychiatric mechanism to measure
social control and determination. This makes it possible to diagnose such
pathologies and diversity of humanity with its contradictions and uniqueness.
"Clinicians should assume that the environment is in constant change and must
stay alert to the emergence of new risks." In this way we enter the acute ward of
a psychiatric hospital where we are invited to search around the concept of
mental health. "An Angel at My Table" pretends to be constructed at the
intersection of a multiplicity of limits; through segmentation, creating different
perspectives, which links the experience of the audience together with
performers.
